Vancouver Drupal User Group – June 24, 2010
This month we have two presentations: A Content Deployment Workflow Your Client Can Use presented by Owen Loy and Katherine Bailey of Work [at] Play; and Project Management With Open Atrium with Steve Krueger of The Jibe Multimedia.
I couldn’t make it to the meeting this month but I was able to watch it online via live streaming. It worked out really well. And I also got to chat with other viewers while we were watching.
Here’s a brief description of the Deploy module;
The deployment framework is a series of modules which are designed to allow developers to easily stage Drupal data from one site to another. This includes content (nodes, taxonomy, users, etc.) as well as configuration (views, content types, system settings, etc.). Not only can it push new content, it can also push updates to existing content. Deploy automatically manages dependencies between nodes (IE nodereferences) as well as between other objects. It is designed to have a rich API which can be easily extended to be used in a variety of situations. Check out the screencast for a demo!
Deploy makes extensive use of the Services module for communicating with remote sites. Deploy will only work with the most current 2.x-dev release of Services.
Steve Krueger talked about Open Atrium a free open source Project Management application built with Drupal. It’s currently in beta so you can download it and try it out for free. Beta7 was released June 23rd. So it’s recently been updated. www.openatrium.com
It is easy to install just like installing Drupal. The admin UI looks great. And if you’re connected to the Internet, you see on the first screen a video that walks you through the main points.
I enjoyed watching tonight’s meeting via live streaming. Thanks Dale for arranging this. The recorded version is found here: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/7876819
